It's about as secure as anything else in this house... > The downside is obviously that you have to run the cables. That's not much of a problem. The house needs rewiring, so it's the ideal time to be thinking of hardwiring the network. I'd more or less worked out where I wanted the Cat5 sockets to go when Charlie started bleating about wireless networks. > If you are wanting to share a broadband connection I > strongly recommend using a combined router / switch with a > built in firewall. At the moment we haven't got broadband here (it's available but we haven't got it); however I can see that it's going to be wanted at some stage, especially if all the computers in the house are to be set up for Internet useage. -- Fran If you need my email address please ask. |

Thanks everyone, you've been great! :-) I bought two magazines this month, both of which discussed wireless networks. I decided against....... You're thinking of the number of computers in the house and equating that with the number of children, yes? Well, Charlie and I have a computer each (so we don't argue over who does what, when) and my two oldest children will have their own in their rooms. One will run on Win 95 and has a massive 1GB HDD; the other runs on Win98 and has a brace of HDDs giving a total of 10GB. Neither of them will be allowed to connect with the Internet; however they will be networked to my machine so I know what they're doing. Of all the machines in the house the only one with an Internet connection is mine :-) -- Fran If you need my email address please ask. |
