thanks guys, i just wish the weather was a bit better so that could go out for a decent ride. Dave, its a Campy Xenon group with a 53cm frame. I could have gone for a 55cm and lowered the seat a bit. (the seat in the pic is a bit high but thats the way it arrived from the shop)

What have I been telling you ..Woolen jerseys. Man, you live in Ireland where wool has to be the national material. The boys in the peloton choose wool back when they didn't have "team cars" to hand them fresh clothing along the way. They knew what they were doing.
When I first starting riding I owned a high neck woolen sweater...... I loved it when riding in nasty weather.

Couldn't agree more. In cold/wet eather it is hard to match. It insulates even when wet. There aren't many others out there that have that ability

road bikes eh? dont you jus' love 'em?

riding along last night and spotted a small pot hole in the road, normally this kind of thing doesnt phase me, i just let the Bomber shocks take the hit. But on my road bike....jeeeezuuz, my hands slipped off the bars and i nearly lunched on alloy stem for tea. There is no give at all in the front end. The smallest lumps and holes just vibrate through your whole body...

i have had life easy, fat juicy tyres, 4 inches of bouncy forks and thick rubbery grips.

i need some hardening up....ladies?

Just imagine how treacherous it would be if you had to ride in some of the most severe weather on earth... You could take your psi from 115 or so down to 80 and your ride may be softer but it would increase your drag....

Yeah, I do... I saw the light after spending a happy two weeks in France doing 60-80 miles a day with a pile of luggage on the back at the age of 15. That would have been misery on a Mountain Bike.

No ****. When I was mountain biking in the Penines on scree and river beds I had 2.125" tires, Cro-Mo frame and Stronglight/Suntour groupset... To help with the shock absorbtion I strapped my wrists up with 10-20ft of bandage and tape. If I didn't do that my hands got so numb I couldn't feel the brake levers let alone use the things. Front shocks are a huge leap forward, before that the only other option was lots of 50+% ABV Rum to numb the pain and keep you from tensing up too much.

I miss that old Suntour stuff too, it was tough, reliable and utterly dependable (YMMV). Didn't SRAM evolve from Suntour ?

Exactly. I have 3 bkes but I haven't yet rationalized the idea of getting a road bike. Not only do the auto-drivers @ here lack the necessary skills to spot a road bike but alas, the time I would need to devote to this additional avocation is already reserved for me girl friends. They wouldn't have it Urban & Mtn riding takes up most of my leisure time.

its great, but takes a bit of getting used to. The brakes are in a funny position. if you need to stop you have to grab the curly bit of the handlebars..

i need to get some clothing though, it looks a bit silly with my mtb gear on.

you get a nice feeling as you whizz by mountain bike riders, a certain feeling of just being better than them . It strange, i cant think why you feel better for no other reason other than you are on a road bike. I just feel superior..

people with low self esteem should buy one...

is this why most roadies are dicks? (kidding)

there must be something in the paintwork that affects the brain....

it came with look pedal but i dont have the shoes so i stuck the spuds on it....marvellous.

I imagine in some cases it is true, but some of us are just born that way and destined to be assholes forever.
The road bike just enhances the effect.

I would buy one if I felt I was worth it and would be accepted by the other 'Rodies.

Is that Pantani Claus, riding down Pantani Claus Lane ?

yea, i knew that was the case...

it is easier to ride a road bike than it is to ride an mtb though...

for instance you dont get many pedestrians to contend with, not the same as on a pavement with the mtb.

For me the selling point is the ease at which you can eat up the miles on a road bike. That was a liberating thing when I was a nipper, lived miles away from anywhere and I wasn't allowed a motorbike or a car. Getting back onto a mountain bike was like putting on diving boots to track running quite frankly.
