Do I need an account to browse?
No. Searching and reading public CyclingForums discussions do not require an account.
Can I post or reply?
Historical posts remain read-only. Existing approved local accounts can use posting and reply controls where their account and the destination forum permit it. Registration remains closed during launch preparation.
How do I create an account?
New account registration is currently disabled during launch preparation. When it opens, /register will create a separate local CyclingForums account after email verification; it will not claim or reuse an imported identity.
Can I claim an imported profile or old username?
No. New accounts are deliberately separate local identities. Imported posts keep their original username, attribution and chronology; the new account system does not copy source credentials or rewrite historical authorship.
What can I change from Your account?
You can maintain your username, verified email, password, display time zone and active sessions. The page also lists and manages the forums, topics and threads you follow, while Your attachments covers your managed uploads, storage and lifecycle history.
Where did my unfinished post go?
The composer saves draft recovery while you write. It can offer a browser copy or, for signed-in members, a private account copy. Review the saved time before choosing Restore draft or Discard; a matching draft is cleared only after publication succeeds.
What happens to an image pasted from another site?
A supported direct image URL used for publication is retrieved once, safety-checked and stored as a managed CyclingForums attachment. Readers receive the local copy rather than repeatedly contacting the original image host. If capture fails, it remains an ordinary link.
How do I manage files I uploaded?
Open Your attachments from Your account to review your managed files, storage use, view totals and lifecycle history. Removal is an explicit owner action; maintenance reports do not automatically delete files.
Does reporting a post remove it?
No. A report privately adds the post and your reason to the moderation queue for human review. It does not automatically hide or delete the content.
What happens when I change my password?
You must enter your current password to set a new one, and every other signed-in session is immediately signed out. Your account also lists each active session so you can review or end one manually at any time.
How does email verification work?
A new account and a changed email address both need a one-time link sent to the address in question. The link can be used once and expires 24 hours after it is sent; requesting a new link replaces any earlier one still outstanding. A changed email keeps the old address active until the new one is confirmed.
What appears on the home page?
The home page starts with search and Browse forums, then offers Find your corner, Worth a read, Popular topics and quick-search tags. It can also show Latest discussions, the topic timeline, a forum snapshot, Across the forum, the active-forum panel and About. Guests can use those public sections without signing in. Private or data-dependent sections such as Your CyclingForums, followed content and recommendations appear only when they have something to show.
What can a guest do on the home page?
A guest can search, browse forums and topics, open discussions, read Latest discussions, follow the topic timeline, use forum recommendations and keep browser-local shortcuts such as recent reading, saved searches, pinned forums, tool follows and recommendation feedback. Sign-in is only needed for account-backed follows, member discovery feeds, Live, feed-scope preferences and layout customization.
Can guests customize the home page?
No. Guests receive the curated default order. Guests can still use browser-local conveniences such as recently viewed discussions, any saved drafts, saved searches, pinned forums, tool shortcuts and reading suggestions, but only signed-in members can hide, reorder or reset home-page sections.
What is Your CyclingForums?
It is the private shortcuts area on the home page and at /your-cyclingforums. It can contain unfinished drafts, pinned forums, saved searches, topic suggestions and reading history. Signed-in records are account-backed and never form a public profile.
Why is a home-page section missing?
Some sections are conditional. For example, followed topics, Tools you follow, Pick up where you left off, Latest discussions, Trending now, From your follows and forum recommendations are hidden when there is no matching data. Guests also do not receive signed-in-only feeds or layout controls.
What follows me to another device?
When signed in, follows, homepage choices, explicit shortcuts, unfinished drafts and bounded reading continuity are private to your account. The browser keeps a local cache for speed and restores it from the account when needed. Text-size display preferences remain device-specific.
What is Latest discussions?
It is a bounded list of ten recent permission-safe discussions. Guests see All forums; signed-in members can choose All forums, Forums you follow or Discussions you contributed to.
What is Live?
Live is the signed-in activity centre. It checks the Latest discussions feed every ten seconds and lets you reveal new activity without reloading the entire page.
Why can’t I find a topic I remember?
The Topics directory hides subjects with fewer than ten visible discussions so it stays useful at a glance. Direct topic links still work, and Search is the better route when you remember a phrase or thread title.
Why can’t I find a discussion I remember?
Search matches published thread titles and published post text. Try a distinctive two-character-or-longer phrase, and remember that only content currently published for public viewing is shown.
What does a thread view count mean?
A recorded thread view adds one to the thread’s total view count. It is a count of recorded views, not a count of unique visitors.
Where are my tool records saved?
When a tool offers Save, the record is stored in local browser storage on that device. It is not public or account-synchronised. Export supported records if you need a backup before clearing site data.
Why are some words replaced with [censored]?
Public pages keep a general-audience presentation, so configured strong language and abusive terms are masked for guests and in search snippets. The stored historical discussion is unchanged.
What does “Username at time of posting” mean?
Attribution is preserved exactly as written in the original forum. The name shown is the one the author used when the post was made, even if they later changed their username.
How do I request removal of archived content?
Authors and rights holders can request a takedown through the privacy & copyright page. Reviewed takedowns are applied promptly: the content disappears from public pages, search and indexes, while the underlying record is kept and can be restored if a request was made in error.
Do old forum links still work?
Yes. Addresses from the original forum redirect to the preserved equivalent page, so old bookmarks and shared links still reach the same discussion.
