What Is Your Resting Morning Heart Rate?

I’m 72. My resting HR is 37 to 42. Max HR @ 161. I’ve been cycling seriously for a long time.

    Training advice please!

In a more complete answer to your question: For such a short TT 6 minutes is easily doable. 5½ minutes would be a more aggressive goal - 5 minutes would be a stretch goal, but achievable in 3 years of so if you are dedicated, young, and reasonably athletic. Really you should look for longer TTs...

Total noob: where/how do i start?

Look for a cycling club, especially one that welcomes new riders. My club has organized training and rides for the newest noobs up to a road racing team. Along the way you'll meet some great people, learn bike skills, bike maintenance and training principles. You'll learn how to ride safely...

    In praise of smart trainers

Good luck with your smart trainer. I hope your experience is as positive as my own. I'm not on Zwift. My competitive venue is time trials, not crits. I get satisfaction from a structured workout well completed. No other motivation needed. Horses for courses, I guess.

    In praise of smart trainers

Thanks for the encouragement. It's been less than a month but I've already added 9w to my CP. I've taken your advice on emphasizing Level 4 and above. The simulated climbs up Alpe d'Huez are completely above Level 4 so I'm accumulating some weekly hours. Of course the intervals have less...

    In praise of smart trainers

I've been using a Tacx Neo for three weeks (although I expect my experience would be the same with many other "smart" trainers). These have been the best workouts I've had. I use Golden Cheetah's Workout Editor (highly recommended) and BigRing VR (a free internet program). First, intervals...

    It's killing me but..........

Thanks for the response, RapDaddyo. I've read many of your posts with interest. I have great respect for your knowledge and your accomplishments. I'll look forward to your periodic updates. I'll also let you know how I'm faring. Of course we each have our own genetics. Even when I raced...

    It's killing me but..........

A lot on FTP numbers have been bandied about on this thread. As I am in the 70-74 y-o class, I'm particularly concerned about what's possible there. The UCI World Hour Record for this group was set in 2014 by Mike Cotgreave of Great Britain at 41+km. Of course this was done on a track so...

    Campagnolo 11 speed: don't use "b" screw

My Chorus RD is fairly new - purchased in 2015. It has both screws. I've been riding Campagnolo since late 60s, when Nuovo Record really was "nuovo". I "thought" I knew how to set up the gears...I guess I learned (again!) to read the instructions.

    Campagnolo 11 speed: don't use "b" screw

Many of you may already know this, but for the rest of us... The traditional way to adjust clearance between the top rear derailleur jockey wheel and the cassette is to adjust the "b" screw ("body screw"). The proper clearance is critical for crisp shifting. The "b" screw typically goes...

    Problems with ProBikeKit.com

I just bought a Castelli Misto jersey. Estimated delivery was 3 weeks; it arrived a couple days early. Good price - no complaints.
