    Tires

I agree that road racing tires and commuting tires are different. I use for commuting, Continential Contact Tire, and have been having good luck. I also use in the commuting tire only, a tire liner which also helps. If you are getting a lot of flats, be sure to check where they are occuring...

DT Swiss - Wheelset or Handbuilds

I am 160 lbs. My first high end wheels were American Classic CR420's. I constantly had problems with the rear hub, never seemed to work right. Then I replaced with a wheel I built, Aerohead Rim, Sapim CX-Rays, and I purchased a barely used Flashpoint hub (24 holes) on ebay for $50, used a 2X...

I quit ROAD BIKES BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO EXPENSIVE!

Expensive is a relative term. For me, three years ago we sold a car, and I replaced it with a $2000 US road bike. I spend about $300 a year (ride between 2K to 5K miles per year) to maintain the bike, while the car cost me about $3K US per year, substantially cheaper (and does include the...

Why wait for cycle lanes? Make your own!

I often commute at night and would be interested in something like this.

    winter tyre sizes?

In the summer, I use GP4000's, in the winter I switch to Gatorskins. I continue to use 23mm both in winter and summer, I have tried 25mm, but they are really close to the bottom bracket. I do back off the air pressure in winter too, and run it at 100 lbs.

What are you most proud of?

Proud???? I have lots. I am 53. I had a brain tumor in 2001, which wiped out my hearing and balance on the left side. In August, I completed my first triathalon, olympic length (who cares about the time (3.5 hrs), I just did it). Last summer, I was able to ride an average speed of 20 mph...

    riding when its snowing?

I usually ride through out the winter, however, I don't go when it is icy or snow on the road. In this area, they clear the roads with a liquid de-icer, so after a storm I can go ride on a wet road about two days after the storm. However, during the storm, the roads turn slick. I ride down to...

Clueless which new tires for my hybrid bike.

How about the Continental Contact line. I would like something with relatively low rolling resistance and puncture protection. You want to replace the tubes anytime you replace the tire. Inner tubes wear out too. Older ones are more prone to flats. Besides, it is inexpensive to replace the...

    Time for a Cut-out Saddle?

I am 53, and due to prostrate issues went to a cut out about 10 years ago. Right now I am using a Specialized Avatar, and love it. If I get a new one, I would look at Performance Bike's Forte Pro SLX...

Clueless which new tires for my hybrid bike.

I use the Continental Contact, but went I little wider thean 28mm (I went with 1 1/4"). I like the tire a lot, appears to be long lasting, puncture resistent and was not too expensive. I use it on my computer bike, and I carry about 20 lbs on the rack.

    Cyclists License?

Motorist are just going to have to understand that they will have to share the road, with both Pedestrians and Cyclists. Roads need to be designed with bicycle usage in mind too. I can not believe they put in stoplights that stay 100% red until a car arrives at the intersection. That forces...
