spoke tension for Mavic CXP 10?

Thanks for all the info. I'm using 14-15-14 double butted spokes. I have the chart to convert the tensionometer readings to actual spoke tension; I just couldn't find the rim-specific tension. I'll set them just shy of 110.

spoke tension for Mavic CXP 10?

I'm building a fixed gear wheel using a White Industries Eno Hub and a previously-used Mavic CXP 10 rim from an old wheelset. I have a Park tensionometer, but I can't find the recommended max spoke tension for this rim. Does anyone know the recommended tension, or can you point me to the...

Important Article? Thoughts? Too Much Water May Be Deadly for Athletes

Actually, follow the Boston Marathon this Monday; I can almost gaurantee that several people will collapse from acute hyponatremia, particularly given the warm temperatures predicted. As you exercise you sweat and lose water as well as electrolytes, particularly sodium. If you replace the sweat...

    Regarding Weigh lifting

Take this for what it's worth; it's my own opinion and recommendation. I'm new to this forum, and clearly it's an area where people have strong opinions - someone will almost certainly tell you I'm full of **** and that their way is better. I won't presume to tell you that I have the gospel...

    Regarding Weigh lifting

And yet his athletes continue to compete at very high levels in cycling, triathlon, including national and international-level championships... Are you saying they win despite his coaching and that he deserves no part of the credit? I was at the US Olympic training center last spring and...

    Regarding Weigh lifting

No, the reason so many pros look like they have huge leg muscles is because they have big-ass legs. They look ripped because they have very little fat, but that is not why their legs look big. Haven't you ever since some scrawny dude with no muscles and no fat? He had a washboard stomach, but...

    Regarding Weigh lifting

David, If I can make a suggestion, I would recommend that you buy "The Cyclist's Training Bible" by Joe Friel and read it. Twice. I've read a bunch of the threads on this list about the use of weights in cycling, and I'm frankly unimpressed; people are so entrenched in who's right and...

n00b:Help Me Decide on a new Road Bike. . .

It's true that the Douglas is mail-order-only for most - I had noticed the original post appeared to come from Colorado. It's true, the rest of us end up buying the bike sight-unseen without the benefit of a test-ride (I suppose you could always return it for a refund if it were awful on the...

n00b:Help Me Decide on a new Road Bike. . .

For $1500, consider Colorado Cyclists' Douglas Fusion - Ultegra throughout with Velomax wheels, aluminum/carbonfiber stays. It's on sale now for $1499, comes in a double or tripple. I bought one this spring after considering a lot of bikes (including the Orbea) , and I can't say enough good...

Building a fixed gear on the cheap?

I'd like to build a fixed gear bike for occasional use in training, but since I've never ridden one and am not sure how much I'll use it, I don't want to pour a whole lot of money into it. I'm starting with my old road bike, a Specialized Allez (steel), which has vertical dropouts. It seems as...

    Altitude on a Polar s710i

Make sure your altitude is not negative (ie -989M). I had that problem for a while. I don't know if changing the units to feet makes a difference...

    Altitude on a Polar s710i

I discovered (through trial and error) that if I reset the altitude before every ride, the accuracy improves dramatically. Otherwise, my absolute altitude is frequently off throughout the ride. I just figured out my home altitude (easy, because I live a mile from the ocean), and make resetting...

    Is EPO O.K.???

From your question, it's clear that you don't care about the moral/ethical issues of using a banned substance (ie. cheating), especially in amateur sports, so I'll leave that aspect out of my response. Epo is absolutely dangerous. When I look at a list of side effects in a drug reference...
