How Cold and Wet Does It Have To Be Before you Cancel A Bike Ride?

I don't know... the older I get, the harder it is to ride in cold weather... I have developed cold induced asthma, so if it's below 45• I have a hard time breathing. It's funny but I don't have that problem running... so I run during the winter as much as I can...

    Burning body fat

well, the study does warn or clarify that is NOT the red meat per se BUT the fat content, so they suggest low fat cuts. Now if we eat meat everyday; high fat cuts; 3 times a day, we have a problem. So moderation is the key. I don't know what dining schedule cavemen followed but I'm sure they did...

    Burning body fat

For what it's worth, this is what is working for me: 3 months ago my weight was 178.8 lbs, today is 166.2 (i'm trying to get to 160) I'm 5-9 3/4" and light frame. Riding a combination of short intense rides (1 hr max; say 17 miles); not all- out, just a good hard effort. 3 times per week...

Hmm... I think the iPhone has much better display but the battery life is short... Maybe a couple of hours if you are using a biking app... The garmin needs base maps; the one that comes preinstalled sucks. You have find a good free map or pay extra to get better maps You could look at the...

Computer for navigation only...do they exist?

The garmin edge 500 has some issues with the course feature; anyway, it doesnt really display a map, only a breadcrum trail. The edge 705 or 800 display actual maps but you have to buy them separately or find a free source like open street maps...

RD cable stop in weird location?

My right foot has a "toes out" motion... I occasionally hit the chainstay on my other two bikes (my shoes always have a slight wear spot on the right inside heel) I've tried to increase the Q factor on my pedals but "knee savers" don't work on my DuraAce pedals here is a photo the manufacturer...

RD cable stop in weird location?

Most road bike frames I've seen have the RD cable stop located on the bottom of the chainstay. I am currently looking at ordering a carbon frame that has it mounted on the chainstay side (I worry it may hit my right heel when pedaling); unfortunately I can not try it since it's overseas...

    dumb gearing question

Assuming same gearing, same wheel circumference on two bikes.... say 50/12 on each, but one has a shorter chain-stay (410mm vs 420mm), the shorter chain-stay bike has a slightly higher gear ratio; correct? Thanks!

    FD problem

Thanks! BTW, I also think it's easier and faster to adjust the RD stops without the chain; I can see much better from the back, so the pulley teeth align perfectly with the large and small cogs...

    FD problem

Alfeng, I have an older Shimano deore MTB 9 speed RD laying around; I also have a 10 speed shifter Ultegra double and an older FSA 50/34 compact crank somewhere... will a Shimano 10 speed MTB Cassette work OK? it should; right?
