    Advice for newbie?

Thanks for the input. For this particular trail, I'm thinking a 29er would really help with rolling over the rock gardens. Clearance height would help too, every run my pedals will hit the rocks at least a few times. Is clearance height an issue for you on your 26"?

    Advice for newbie?

I am VERY tempted to get a 29" full suspension bike, but find it hard to justify spending a whole month's salary on one. If I'm being honest, I'll probably only use it 20-30 times a year, as I already have a hybrid for daily commutes. Rental for the bike I was using (which was decent, disc...

    Advice for newbie?

These tips were really helpful, and helped me overcome some climbs I couldn't the last time. After slipping off lots of rocks/roots and pushing the bike up countless mounds/switchbacks I survived one loop of the black diamond trail. Where I'm at with the trail atm: - fear factor has gone down...

    How to tighten presta valve?

    1. I screw in the core, pump the tyres, screw in the black cap. Everything seems fine. Scenario A: If I do not ride 2. I unscrew the black cap, everything is fine. The core is still in place, screwed on correctly. Scenario B: If I ride 2. While riding everything seems fine. 3. When I unscrew...

    How to tighten presta valve?

Thanks both for your advice. Was a new conti tube too :(

    How to tighten presta valve?

Oh no... I was thinking that it was just a matter of tightening it better. Here it is after tightening it back using hands and re-inflating the tube to optimal pressure. It can handle the current 6 bar; but if I ride the bike, it pops off only held by the black cap.

    How to tighten presta valve?

Changed my front inner tube a few weeks back. Everytime I try unscrewing the black cap after a ride to pump the tyres, the top part of the valve flies off. Apart from screwing it back by hand, I've tried using pliers, a spanner, pliers with cloth wrapped around the valve... but nothing seems to...

    Advice for newbie?

How long is your commute? I'm assuming you aren't taking this bike to the trail? If you're concerned about handling, I think a rear rack + rack trunk/pannier would be less obtrusive. I personally just carry a backpack to work. Laptops these days are very light + on days when I take public...

    Did You Ride Today?

Had a fun ride today. To promote its new car-lite agenda, authorities closed part of the CBD to cars, and this madness happened :D https://vine.co/v/iU6OPX275uH

Should i change this tyre pre-emptively?

^ Thanks for the info. I have more peace of mind now (about the flat spot), but seems my conti tyre doesn't have a wear indicator.

Should i change this tyre pre-emptively?

^Yeah I see no reason to stick with what came with the bike. Unless the bike is a top end model, there'll usually be better tyres models from different brands (including models from the manufacturer of the stock tyres) to upgrade to.

Should i change this tyre pre-emptively?

Beyond sizing, it just comes down to personal preference. Never seen bicycles manufacturers recommending a specific tyre over another; and tyre brands make a range of cheap to expensive tyres. While my stock conti tyres seem to wear faster than I hoped they would, that doesn't mean their other...

    Advice for newbie?

Right now I'm just renting bikes. Considering I'll only use the MTB on weekends, space and $ wise it makes sense to just keep renting for now. BUT, the reliability factor is a bigger unknown with rented bikes and they tend to under-inflate their tyres serverely. One shop refused to pump the tyre...

Should i change this tyre pre-emptively?

Ordered mine from CRC. Around USD$50 I think, so pretty ok :) I recently changed my front tyre to a Schwalbe Marathon (normal), but it feels really hard and not as sticky compared to the OEM conti tyres, not used to it. + The tread is annoyingly good at getting sand and glass shards lodged and...
