help! need hands-on insight into trainers

Hi everyone: contemplating to purchase a trainer, and having a look at what's generally available in the market, I have the following questions. Any experience to share? 1. It seems there are at least three mechanisms: hydraulic, magnetic and wind (?). Any better than the others? why? 2...

Campag versus ShimaNO! or should that be Kerry V Bush?

By typing ShimaNO, you already have expressed your opinion, haven't you? I hope your crank snaps tonight ;) Things like this as we see in other cases like Intel vs AMD, MAC vs PC, Holden vs Ford, top posting vs bottom posting... are all fun as long as I can find a fan from one camp whom I can...

Cyclist Safety - Submissions to the Victorian Government

Some mind-blowing discoveries (as itemised). Thanks to these studies now I know my conduct in public toilets follows the general pattern! Who funds these sort of research??? I thought it would be normal for ANY one (regardless of gender) to try to spend as least time as possible in smelly...

Cyclist Safety - Submissions to the Victorian Government

Sorry cfsmtb, this thread was almost killed instantly by this tasty topic. Gotta add some input here ;) One way of analysing these observations, and relating them, could be: - those ute drivers visit brothels frequently - those ute drivers drive passed bikes with close distance therefore...

    need enlightment on SS

Too right. However, I think your recommendation is more relevant to a bike with a 39-52 front and 12-23 cog in back. My gear set up is slightly tweaked to give me a better combo in terms of gear ratio, convenince of gear change and also as you said avoiding the use of last two gears on each...

    need enlightment on SS

Hey Gags, Yeah, I used to live in Ngunnawal up to last year. I used to cimmute from there to Black Mt labs. Then work moved a little further to ANU. Last year I moved to Amaroo. Next week my work will move to Barton. It's just getting further and further! No complaint there, though. :)...

Can we talk about "nude" biking again???

I always thought the split/hole was for letting the gas out without coming off the saddle. Worked for me while I had one :D

    An Apology

Couldn't agree more, Marty. Exit is the best action when line of discussion is degraded. When there are logic and substance, and common courtesy to back them up, though, diverse opinions and discussions are all constructive and interesting. Take the "nude riding" for instance. Don't you...

    need enlightment on SS

Thanks Hippy. Now I got some idea. :) I remember back in my childhood days Chinese-built SS bikes were prevalent in my home town. They were pretty heavy with all those mudguards, racks and steel dark green frames. Riding them on those huge 28" wheels asked for a good work out. They phased...

    need enlightment on SS

Probably not relevant since I commute in Canberra. but what's the special deal about SS? My slow wit, I know. The gear combo I use every day during commuting range between 42X17 and 52X12. Although the majority of the distance is ridden on 42X13, I still guess an SS would be too wasteful...

    An Apology

Andrew, You should not give up contributing to the community if you believe in your contribution. Bitter individual confrontations should not discourage you or any one else. Any discussion group or forum would be dead boring if all users agreed all the time. Keep on reading and posting...

Can we talk about "nude" biking again???

Can't remember the saying, it goes like "there's ...(can't remember)... if there's a will". My brain is already frozen in early June. We have Christmas in July, why can't we have "nude ride down under" in December? :D:D:

Bleeding blisters on the rear end!

Hi Kathy: In my personal experience, the combo of saddle and nix takes some trial and error before the comfy combo is found. A good LBS allows you to test ride loan saddles before you buy. With nix, it can't be done (hygene). I found the best way to avoid the problem is not riding with the...
