Thank you from Kimberlee (Jim Price's daughter)

My family and I would like to thank each of you from the various forums he posted on for sharing your thoughts and experiences with him and condolences as well. My dad was a rather prolific poster it appears. I have read that on one forum he only started 3 threads, but had thousands of posts...

I'm hoping we didn't just lose a member

Hello, this is Jim's daughter Kimberlee. My dad picked up the hobby of cycling back in 1997 while in Houston. About 5 years ago (about a year after he retired and moved back to Denver) he really got into rebuilding and maintaining bikes. He had a freakish talent for retaining everything he...

I'm hoping we didn't just lose a member

Wugga, that is so cool you actually ran into him on a ride....he would go out for a minimum of 2 hours a day, weather permitting that is. My husband and I would take the kids down to Ocean Journey and see him while we would walk along the platte river next to the little train before heading...

I'm hoping we didn't just lose a member

Just an update...I learned from another board my dad frequented that this story has made the national news...it is running on CNN and the FOX networks. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/11/26/textmessage.death.ap/index.html They ran the story on the local fox station with our comments and a pic this...

    Frame sizing among the pros

It was no secret that Cipollini got a custom Cdale frame when he rode for Saeco. One of the magazines even did a story on the Saeco bikes and the custom ones for the top riders. The basic nuts and bolts of the tubeset may have been the same as for the stock bikes, but the geometry was specially...

    Frame sizing among the pros

There is alot of blather here that does not float the hooey barge.Certainly many top team riders get rebadged frames and custom geometry. That in itself does not result in extreme or agressive position.Almost any rider that wants to can get the 'Euro Trash' look with a stock frame.. In fact many...

    Frame sizing among the pros

Compacts always have more seatpost. As for the rest become a pro and maybe you will get it, but like all generalizations, the one you threw out doesn't always fly. Lance is shorter that I am and rides the same size frame.

    Upgrading Sidepull Brakes

Maybe all he needs is pads, and casing and cables on the old ones. The casing and cables would be needed with new calipers anyway....but without even knowing what he/she has, maybe the whole bike wold be better off in a dumpster.

length of a quill type stem?

If you mean the extension or reach, with old cast aluminum types most were center of quill bolt to center of bar clamp along the side of the extension. The newer tig welded types are typically c-c along the side of the extension. Keep in mind that varying the extension angle relative to the...

Confused about short, medium, and long cage rear derailleur capacity!

'tolerances' Link me to that Willis. I couldn't find it.

Confused about short, medium, and long cage rear derailleur capacity!

Some just need to get their head out of their aZZ too. The paralleogram of the short and medium is the same, and that is what determines big cog capability. Cage length is about chain wrap. AFWIW dunce, I'm not the only one having done it.It's fairly common practice.

Confused about short, medium, and long cage rear derailleur capacity!

Another 'Campy sez' regurgitator. There are many including myself using a short cage with a 29. Sometimes it pays to just grab the seat of yer pants and 'just do it'. You won't go wrong doing it Campys or Shimanos way, you you will often spend more money than you need to.

scandium frame and thomson post ?

A seatpost makes no friggin difference as to how you **** feels, assuming you put a saddle on top of it. The frame is actually aluminum alloy with a tiny % of Sc fairy dust.

quill cinelli stem and fork stuck together

WTF did you expect them to tell you about a replacement fork for a late '80s frame? Or maybe you thought they had a few sitting on the shelf? People replace forks on old bikes all the time. It's not rocket science. Just do it. If the plug in the base of the cinelli quill will fall out the bottom...

    Derailluer difference

If the present RD is pre 9 speed DA, you need a different one. Any shimano SIS RD other than a pre 9 speed DA will work.

Does a good carbon frame last longer than Aluminum?

Since he doesn't apparently sell bikes or frames anyway, it's just lame internet pontificating. ;)
