Trying to lose weight - what the heck do I eat?!?!

My trainer has me using www.myfitnesspal.com (also, if you have a smartphone, there's probably an app). You can log what you eat & log your exercise & how much you burn. It's really an awesome tool. I've been using it for 6 months. And, don't skip that second banana :). Whenever I've...

Trying to lose weight - what the heck do I eat?!?!

Eek, wait a sec. Snacks are perfectly fine. You just have to watch what you're eating. For example, a bowl of plain oatmeal with fresh blueberries is fine for a snack. A bag of chips is not. My personal trainer encourages snacking in between meals to keep my metabolism up, & to keep me from...

    Spin Classes

I'm with you in that it didn't prepare me for outdoor cycling like I thought it would. Apparently what I consider a hill in class isn't even CLOSE to an outdoor hill, lol. On a spin bike you keep going "forward" no matter what, but my legs can only do so much on an outdoor hill before I have...

    Spin Classes

Maydog, your spinning experience kinda sounds like mine. My two favorite instructors (one guy & one girl, both road riders) only allow us to "rest" long enough to grab a drink & towel off before we're back into the heavy activity. Maybe 10 seconds at the most. Both instructor's are pretty...

    Spin Classes

I got into taking spin classes last year when I joined a larger gym with better trainers/instructors. I immediately fell in love. I notice that when the weather gets nice, membership in those classes drops off substantially. I'm assuming it's because riders prefer to be out riding when the...

What do you fill your bottle with? and how do you recover from lethargy after the ride?

Over 100 miles is pretty dang impressive. The first night I got my bike I did about 20 miles (according to google maps) & really wanted to do more, but the sun was setting and I don't have night riding equipment. I'm taking my bike out on the trails tonight & tomorrow. It's supposed to get...

Cycling Playlist - Best Music To Ride To

I only listen to music when I'm on a bike trail and away from traffic, & even then it's not as loud as I listen while at the gym. I typically just throw my music library on shuffle, but I always go harder (whatever I'm doing at the time) when Andrew W.K. comes on.

    andriod phone app for tracking

I loooove Cardio Trainer! Sometimes the GPS hiccups a little, but I think that's more my phone's fault than the app's.

What's the best way to carry a smartphone that's pretty heat-sensitive?

Good to know, thanks! I've never used a bladder before so I just wasn't certain. I'd be keeping the bladder inside the backpack, loose with my other items.

What's the best way to carry a smartphone that's pretty heat-sensitive?

When I start riding on trails, I want to carry my phone with me. I have an app called Cardio Trainer that I use to track my other outdoor workouts & I can't wait to use this while cycling. The thing is, it gets pretty dang hot here in Kansas City in the summer. I thought about getting a...

    My take on Cycling

What an excellent post :). I just recently decided to get back into cycling as a hobby. I used to cycle a LOT when I was younger, but not so much anymore. I've been really into spin classes this past year, though. Well, earlier this week I went out & bought the bike that I could most...

What do you fill your bottle with? and how do you recover from lethargy after the ride?

This is some great information here, especially going into summertime where it gets beastly hot & humid here. I've typically just done water on my rides. But, I picked up one of these: http://cascadedesigns.com/platypus/hydration-systems/hoser/product and I'm eager to experiment w/ different...

What is your worst cycling experience?

Man, some of these sound downright horrifying!! I'm lucky that I've only gotten away with a few falls & scrapes. I came VERY CLOSE to a catastrophe, though. The other day when I got my new bike, I was so eager to ride it that I hopped on after getting it home from the bike shop. There's a...

Sometimes I'm not Sure It's Worth It

Sedona is indeed pretty pricey! When my parents retired there, my mom was excited to do things that they were always too busy to do things when they were working, like work at soup kitchens, minister to the poor, etc. My dad said "Honey...we WILL BE THE POOR in Sedona!" I just looked up the...

Sometimes I'm not Sure It's Worth It

Sierra, I'm new here, but I wanted to tell you that your story really struck a chord with me. I absolutely think you're doing the right thing about going through with the ride in her memory/honor. In the end this will also be your own tale of overcoming several obstacles. Good luck &...

    Introduction & a question

Thanks!! I'm assuming a lighter bike equals greater speed. That makes sense w/ the difference in size between mountain, hybrid, & road bikes. I can sure tell a difference between my Schwinn mountain bike & my Trek hybrid bike. Tonight it was lightly raining, but I still went out on my bike...

    Introduction & a question

Hey y'all! I just joined today. When I was younger & living in a mid-sized midwestern town, I used to bike around ALL the time. I had a decent bike that my parents bought me when I was in 7th grade. If I remember correctly it was an offshoot of the Trek brand. I rode that thing until grad...

Need a bike rack for a small framed bike

I picked up a new bike yesterday from a Trek store, & I got a bike rack from Wal-Mart. The bike rack was too big for the frame of my bike. I'm trying to find one under $75 that would fit a smaller framed bike. Anyone have any suggestions?
