British cyclist, 27, is hit and killed by truck in New Zealand after car driver opened door in front

+1. There is Fergie (when he stops spouting off that you don't need strength to ride a bike).

British cyclist, 27, is hit and killed by truck in New Zealand after car driver opened door in front

I'm always wary of them car doors from parked cars in built up area's. Motorists don't even bother to look in there mirrors. Just keep your wits about ya.

    Weight training, unanswered questions (Sorry)

Pardon?. We ermmmmm... rivalling Chris Hoy on the track or Fabian Cancellara on the road are we Alex?. Lance supplemented his cycling with lifting way back in '99. You'll figure it out (down in Cat.3). Push bigger gears, you need greater & greater strength levels to achieve it...

    Weight-Lifting for Legs

Interesting. It's something you will have to delve into in the future to make your riders contenders at world level, or the probable outcome is that your guys will get left in the dust. More force (strength), the bigger gear you can push, more speed. I find it laughable...

Eight die as drug driver hits cycling club convoy in Italy.

Its real scary. And to think I use to go through red lights without a second thought. Still don't wear an helmet when I'm training. Maybe people think I'm suicidal.

    Weight training, unanswered questions (Sorry)

Weight training means bigger muscles?. News to me. Why would you want to train hypertrophy/mass?. Why not use weight training for just CNS stimulation?.

    Weight-Lifting for Legs

Chris Hoy (Track)... Fabian Cancellara (Road)... have proved it. Greater force, greater speed. Have you ever pushed a big gear?. It requires force. Don't you understand. Ability to produce more force in a bigger gear, more speed.

    Weight-Lifting for Legs

Unfortunatly, Fabian Cancellara, Anna Meares, Lance Armstrong, Victoria Pendleton, Chris Hoy, Shanaze Reade, Tony Martin etc etc may disagree with you on that instance felt. To be a great athlete you have to train force & velocity to achieve greater power, we are witness to this across a...

    Weight-Lifting for Legs

I'm back to bust some balls. Hold your horses, your not training world champions just yet. You've been doing it for 2 decades & not one consistent champion. Says it all really. One example?. You need to do a lot better than that. That's not strength training. How...

Is muscle hypertrophy ever useful for cyclists?

It also means greater force application, the ability to push bigger gears & ease in which you can overcome inertia during acceleration. In endurance racing force of contraction is not a limit to cycling, but where talking about sprinting. Just as in the 100m in athletics, force of...

Is muscle hypertrophy ever useful for cyclists?

I don't squat either, nor am I a fan of leg pressing. I'm big into deadlifting, hip thrusts & increasing core strength mainly. I think cycling will be heading in this direction soon. Only when you can push in the region of a 52 x 14 & greater, turning it over rapidly with ease, do you have...

Is muscle hypertrophy ever useful for cyclists?

Stronger legs produce greater forces. Squats are hip/knee extension based activities, just as cycling. Stronger/bigger legs also house more fast twitch. Its pretty simple, the more force you can create, the bigger gear you can turn over from that of a weaker competitior. We also see...

Is muscle hypertrophy ever useful for cyclists?

The reason being it's always easier to operate at a lower percentage of one's peak power the stronger you are. Your using comparatively lower percentage of your available strength to complete the SAME task and therefore have extra energy left over for all the other parts of the task.
