Books thread - what are U reading?

Stevebiker, you have to read The Warrior Elite: The Forging of SEAL Class 228 by **** Couch. **** Couch is a retired SEAL and he follows this class from Indoc through graduation and beyond. I thought it would be a dry book (it was given to me), but I found that I couldn't put it down. It's a...

Where are you from, what do you do?

I already have a post here somewhere. But I've changed careers, so I figured it's time I made a new post. I still live near Chicago, IL, but I'm now an airline pilot. I fly a CRJ (google it if you want to see a picture). It's great, but doesn't leave much time for cycling. :(

    What Car do you drive?

Yeah. You're right. It would be cool. It's black/white. It still looks sharp though.

    Chicago Suburbs Cyclists

41 male Elgin I used to ride the Fox River Trail a lot since it's right near my house. Going north there are too many street crossings which interrupt the ride, and the path is rough as hell. To the south, it's much better. It connects to the Prairie Path and to a trail running down through...

Newbie's first day down, now a couple of questions...

I went through the numb fingers thing when I first got my road bike. I went to the local shop. They fitted the bike to me, and I've had no problems since then.

    A couple of training questions

I've been doing Spinervals on my trainer this winter and I've noticed a couple of things that I have questions about. When doing very high cadence with low resistance, I bounce all over the place. How do I learn to be smooth when going so fast? During the sets where you are to stand and...

    Mental Training

Heh. I'm glad I found this thread because I just had a revelation recently about this. I've been doing Tae-Bo interspersed with my cycling workouts for my cardio training (being winter here). Because of my schedule I've been working out first thing in the morning. I am NOT a morning person...

Music for the wicked - Hard Rock/Metal

Heh. I'm a new FW fan. In other words, I think APSoG is their best album. I'm guessing that you do not. Yeah. I was a bit disappointed with the new Zero Hour album. The first one was so damn strong. The new one isn't bad, but just not quite as good as the first one. Yeah, The Odyssey is...

Music for the wicked - Hard Rock/Metal

I don't listen to most of the stuff you guys list. I like the following: Iced Earth Blind Guardian Demons & Wizards Tad Morose Brainstorm Therion Opeth Sonata Arctica After Forever Kamelot Epica Pyramaze Savatage Evergrey Fates Warning Nightwish Orphaned Land Symphony X Zero Hour The Lord...

    Avg. speed?

My average is in the mid 13s. However, that includes a 10 minute warm-up and a 10 minute cool down. So of a 20 mile ride, only 15 miles is really going hard (I do intervals). I don't know what my average is for those 15 miles though.

I want to get a debate going!!!!

My wife and I went to the LBS last week to pick up my Kurt Kinetics trainer. Not only did the guy remember me - and recognized even though the last time I was in there with VERY long hair, and this time had a "corporate" hair cut - but her remembered that my wife was a runner. She had only...

Best Cycling Song Ever ! (Nominations)

ARGH! Both Van Halen and Sammy Hagar were both SO much better before getting together. They pussed out then. How about Sammy Hagar, Bad Motorscooter?

    Shifting question

Good luck. How did you like the clinic? Did it seem like a worthwhile thing, or was it lacking in some way?

    Shifting question

FWIW, I bought a Specialized Allez Comp triple this year. After my first tune up, I noticed some chain noise starting up again. I decided to adjust things myself. It was shifting fine, but the chain was just noisy like it was before I got the tune-up. I used the documentation that came with...

    Hands and wrists hurt...

When I first got my bike I started to get numbness and tingling in my fingers. I suspected that the bars were too low. I took it to a bike shop and got it fit properly (the place I bought it from didn't fit it other than seat height). They raised my handlebars and moved my seat forward a bit. No...

    Cycling hates

The noise a squirrel makes when you run over it. Oh yeah, and that the damn thing sat there on the edge of the path until I got close, then ran out when it was too late for me to stop or swerve.

Pet dogs running along cyclists? Is this

I've got two Australian Cattle Dogs whom I would love to take cycling with me. They're out of shape though. The lady we got them from let them get very fat. They're both down to a good weight, but not in shape yet. FWIW, ACDs are bred specifically to herd cattle all day long, and it is not...
