    105-106% of Max Heart Rate?

Thanks for everyone's responses. Sounds like I need to retest my Max and continue to test every month or so. Not too sure what to think about the Max increasing or decreasing with fitness level improvement, but at this point - I'm not sure that I'm going to worry about it. -Bryan

    105-106% of Max Heart Rate?

Skydive: Do you change your Polar target zones to reflect this 19 beat difference? Or, is the heart monitor more of an overall workout evaluation? Thanks, -Bryan

    105-106% of Max Heart Rate?

Mark: Thank you for the prompt reply. I did use the 220-age calculation, but also confirmed it with wind sprints (recommended by local running store where I bought the Polar). Can your max increase? If so, should I do another test? Thanks, -Bryan

    105-106% of Max Heart Rate?

The last couple times riding - especially doing hill work - my heart rate is around 105-106%. Is that normal? I'm returning to cycling at a long break and just not too sure that I've calculated my max heart rate correctly. Any thoughts? Thanks! -Bryan

Best Lighting System for Road Cycling

Looking for a quality lighting system for my road bike. I'm wanting to attach it to the handlebar, not my helmet. Read a little on mtbreview.com, but there seems to be little concensus. Nite Rider seems to have a poor reputation, but is what everyone around here is selling. Any thoughts...

    Pedal Type

To be honest, it depends upon your ability and goals for riding the bike. If you are just looking to get fit and ride about town, I wouldn't worry about the pedals (at least for a while). If you are seeking to fly about roads and ride some races, then the pedals are going to help you about 20 -...

Eating on the bike and Diabetes

I am by no means an expert, but I am a Type I diabetic who has been riding a fair bit in the past few months. My personal opinion is that as diabetics the key is really protein. I like the Clif Bars for their protein content. They allow for a slow sugar availability over the course of the ride...

    Road bike sizing?

First and foremost - Go Aggies! On another note, I would highly recommend that you go into a well reputed bike store and have a professional size you on the 5200. Your height really isn't all that important to be honest - focus more on your inseam. If you run into a local bike store, try a 54...

    Pedal Type

New to cycling, but I'm using the Crank Brother's Eggbeaters and really enjoy them. Tried Look and SPD, but enjoyed the ease of use of the Eggbeaters. I also enjoy the uniqueness of the pedal as well. Very light. Simple to use.

    Newbie Frame Size Question 56 v. 53cm

Well, after long discussions with the wife, we've decided to go and pick up another bike. A local bike shop has told us they will take the ill-fitting bike in on trade and we can buy a proper sized bike. I hate it and will most likely never make another purchase at the shop that sold me the...

    Newbie Frame Size Question 56 v. 53cm

OK... So I went to a bike store in the area with a better reputation than the one where the original purchase took place. They offered to set the bike up properly for me. After about ten minutes of watching me ride the bike on a trainer, they recommended buying a new bike. They did suggest...

    Newbie Frame Size Question 56 v. 53cm

Boudreaux: Thanks for the input. Your response about the toptube was part of my concern. I'll be interested to see what others say. Thinking about going into a local bike shop and having them look at it as well. (Just not the one where I made the bike purchase - little upset with them at this...

    Newbie Frame Size Question 56 v. 53cm

Ok... Be nice here. I bought a Specialized Allez a couple of years back and haven't ridden it much over the past couple of years. The brakes have always seemed just a tad out of reach for me. I'm able to do it, but not comfortably. I've wondered if it was due to inexperience. But...
