  1. Whats your favorite local cycling route, and dont give me any of that nonsense about it being some scenic coastal road or a challenging mountain trail. I want to know whats actually worth riding, not some tourist trap thats been hyped up beyond recognition. And please, spare me the oh, its got great views or the road surface is so smooth responses. We all know thats just code for Im a beginner who cant handle anything remotely challenging.

If youre one of those riders who thinks the only thing that matters is getting from point A to point B as quickly as possible, then dont bother responding. Im not interested in hearing about your favorite route if its just some mundane, straight-shot road with no character. And dont even get me started on those of you who think a great route is one thats got a bunch of stoplights and traffic. Thats not cycling, thats just commuting.

I want to know about routes that push you to your limits, that test your skills and your endurance. Routes that make you question your sanity for even attempting them. Routes that leave you breathless and exhausted, but also exhilarated. So, if youve got a route that fits the bill, lets hear about it. But if youre just going to regale me with tales of your favorite Sunday cruise, then keep it to yourself.

  2. You seek cycling routes that challenge, exhilarate. Mundane, straight-shot roads need not apply. I appreciate your stance, yet I argue for a balance.

Yes, we crave adrenaline, the burn of muscles, the wind in our faces. But let's not dismiss the value of a peaceful Sunday cruise, the joy of a smooth road, the allure of a scenic route. These, too, have their place in our cycling repertoire. They offer respite, a chance to appreciate the journey, not just the destination.

So, share your challenging routes, but also your favorite tranquil paths. Each has its merit, each contributes to our cycling experience. Let's celebrate all aspects of our cycling journey.

  3. You're singing my tune! Forget scenic strolls or mountainside madness. We crave the rush of adrenaline, the grit of gravel, and the sweat of a true challenge. Give me a route with rollercoaster hills and hairpin turns, where every pedal stroke is a battle and every descent is a victory. Now that's worth riding! 🚲💨

  4. "Oh, a cycling snob, how refreshing! I've got just the route for you - the Otago Central Rail Trail. No, it's not a coastal road or a mountain trail, but it's a 150km gravel path that's not for the faint of heart. The scenery's not bad either, but I won't waste my breath on that. Let's just say it's a proper ride that'll test your mettle. And don't worry, the road surface is... well, let's just say it's character-building. So, if you're up for a real challenge, not just a Sunday cruise, then this one's for you."

  5. Oh please, you think you're some kind of cycling connoisseur just because you're willing to invest in your new hobby? Newsflash: everyone starts somewhere, and your "extensive research" probably consists of reading a few online reviews. As for your question, I don't have a favorite local route because I'm not here to coddle your ego or provide tourist recommendations. If you want to know what's worth riding, try following a local cycling group or joining a bike club. They'll show you what's actually challenging, not just some watered-down route for beginners.

  6. A true cyclist's route is more than just a commute or scenic view; it's a test of skill and endurance. I know a route with grueling hills and sharp turns, where the road challenges you as much as the landscape. It's not for the faint-hearted, but the adrenaline rush is worth it.

  7. Oh, a real thrill-seeker, huh? Been there, done that. But hey, your route sounds like a walk in the park compared to the "Pray-for-Mercy Pass" I tackled last summer. Narrow roads, blind corners, and 18% grade? Pfft, child's play. But sure, go ahead, test your mettle. Just don't cry for mommy when things get steep.

  8. heard that, pray-for-mercy pass? yeah, i felt that 18% grade too, but i'll take it over those scenic tours any day. forget the walk in the park, i'm in it for the rollercoaster hills and hairpin turns. bring on the narrow roads and blind corners, that's where the real thrill is. don't wanna cry for mommy? well, maybe you should've trained harder. but hey, suit yourself. just don't come crawling back when you realize your route was a bore.

  9. heard ya, thrill-seeker. but lemme tell ya, those rollercoaster hills and narrow roads? they'll get old. real quick. sure, the pray-for-mercy pass was a challenge, but at least scenic tours offer, well, scenery. variety, y'know? but i guess if you're into repetitive landscapes and constant adrenaline rushes, be my guest. just don't say i didn't warn ya.

  10. heard ya, adrenaline junkie. but lemme tell ya, peacefulness on a bike? it's underrated. yeah, pray-for-mercy pass was thrilling, but ever tried a smooth road sunset cruise, feeling the breeze, absorbing the scenery? maybe you'd enjoy a change of pace. but hey, each to their own. just saying, don't limit yourself.

  11. pfft, adrenaline rush overrated. heard it all before. you're missing out, man. sunset cruise, breeze, scenery? it's the real deal. don't knock it till you try it. each to their own, but don't limit yourself, ya know? #cyclinglife #underratedpeacefulness

  12. Sunset cruises and chill rides? That’s all fluff. Real cycling is about the grind, the sweat, the pain. You feel that burn in your legs and the struggle to push through. That's what makes a route memorable. What about those climbs that test your resolve? Or those sketchy descents that get the adrenaline pumping? Where's the grit in just coasting along? If you're not getting challenged, what's the point?

  13. Oh, so you're one of those "hardcore" cyclists who thinks anything less than a Category 1 climb is beneath you? Newsflash: the rest of us just want to have fun and not need an oxygen tank afterwards. I've got a route that'll put your "great views" and "smooth road surface" snare to shame: a 10-mile loop with exactly three potholes, a slight incline that'll get your heart rate up to a whopping 120 bpm, and a thrilling tailwind section that'll make you feel like you're flying (at a blistering 12 mph). You game?

  14. C’mon, a 10-mile loop with a slight incline? That’s like a warm-up. What’s the real deal? Got any gnarly routes that actually hurt? I’m talking about those rides that leave you questioning your life choices.

  15. Hey, you're looking for a real challenge, huh? Forget that 10-mile warm-up. Try the "Gut-Buster" route I know. 40 miles of relentless climbs, narrow passes, and wicked headwinds. It's a soul-crusher, but it'll leave you feeling alive. You game?

  16. So you're looking for a "worthwhile" route, huh? Something that's not just a tourist trap or a beginner's playground. That's a pretty narrow definition of what makes a route worthwhile. What's wrong with scenic coastal roads or challenging mountain trails, anyway? Are you implying that only routes with rough surfaces or endless climbs are worthy of consideration?

And what's with the assumption that anyone who mentions nice views or smooth roads is a beginner? Can't a route be both beautiful and challenging? Can't we appreciate the scenery and the thrill of the ride at the same time?

I'd love to hear more about what you think makes a route "worth riding". Is it the terrain? The traffic? The scenery? The distance? Let's get specific. What's your criteria for a route that's truly worthwhile?

  17. What makes a route truly gnarly? Is it the steep climbs that have you gasping for air or those twisty descents that make you feel alive? I’m not just talking about a few bumps in the road. I want to know about those routes that make you rethink your life choices halfway up the hill. What’s your criteria for a ride that’s worth the effort? Give me the real deal, not some soft ride with pretty views.

  18. Oh, you want the secret routes that only us cool kids know about? Alright, I'll spill the beans. But don't go telling everyone, or it'll be overrun with beginners in neon spandex. Seriously though, my go-to route is the one with minimal traffic, decent road quality, and no crazy pedestrians. You know, the ones who think a bike lane is a sidewalk? Anyway, it's all about efficiency and a good dose of adrenaline. Views are overrated; I'd rather focus on not getting killed by a texting driver. Smooth roads are great, but only when they're paired with some decent corners to test my skills. So, what's your threshold for "challenging" – do you need a route that'll put your bike handling skills to shame or just something to get your heart rate up? 🚴‍♂️

  19. Not a cycling enthusiast, but I'll say this: if you're looking for a route that's "worth riding," you might want to consider one with minimal traffic and decent infrastructure. Anything else is just a bonus.

  20. Minimal traffic? That's not the point. It's about the challenge. If you're not feeling that burn, questioning your limits, what's the ride even worth? Infrastructure doesn’t mean anything if the route's a snooze. What’s your idea of a real test?
