  1. I recently bought a new bike off ebay. It's a road bike that has been modifeied for triathlons. If I was to upgrade something, what would be the first part you would chose? A quick explanation would get great also. I'm thinking about getting a new crank for it first or maybe SPD-R pedals. Here's what it came with: KINESIS DOUBLE BUTTED 7005 ALUMINUM FRAME, KINESIS CARBON FIBER FORK, NEW 2006 SHIMANO TIAGRA RR DER, SHIMANO 3300 FRT DER, SHIMANO 3300 16-SPEED SHIFTERS, TEKTRO DUAL PIVOT BRAKES WITH SHIMANO LEVERS, TRUVATIV ALUMINUM DOUBLE CRANK FOR SRINT TRI AND SPEED WORK [with 53/39 rings], ALEX / M-WINGS WHEEL SET, ALUMINUM SPD CLIPLESS ROAD PEDALS, M-WINGS HANDLEBAR, M-WINGS STEM, M-WINDS SEATPOST, TRANS-X AERO TRI BARS AND A SUPER COMNFORTABLE ROAD SADDLE.

    Here's the auctions site: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&item=140003662303&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

  2. It seems like a nicely set up 8 speed entry level road bike.

Leave the major components, pedals/shoes and tyres would be my first consideration. I assume it has a 12-25 cassette on the rear.

  3. saddle

    then pedals, wheels.

Buy another bike if you want to upgrade drivetrain its cheaper that way.

  4. It's false economy to buy a bike to upgrade it. Just ride it, and replace things that wear out or break in crashes.
Only replace your saddle if it is uncomfortable. The generic 14yo saddle on my old steel MTB is just as comfortable as the new Selle Italia Flite Transam saddle on my road bike, and almost certainly more durable.
When you decide you need a better bike, get a new one and sell the old.
