If you're still contemplating buying a Giro, and don't mind buying a bike on ebay, there are a few listed at some great prices - like a new silver 2003 model for $850. I've bought a few bikes and framesets on ebay, and have never been dissapointed.

Your earlier comment of considering steel over aluminum is a very valid point. I wouldn't be concerned over a lack of performance between the Giro and a steel-framed Bianchi - after owning my Giro, I'd only buy a steel one now. (call me old-fashioned!)
