2008 Tour de France Stage 17 - Wednesday, July 23: Embrun - L'Alpe-d'Huez, 210.5 km

Sastre is off on the attack. For a while Menchov was able to match, but now he is dropping back. Evans is on the lead of the chase.

I still think Kohl could win it today, if Evans gets his wheel then its game over for CSC.

Valv is looking strong.

Someone needs to attack the Schlecks, if they get back to Saster they will just launch off the front.

Menchov already 20 sec behind F. Schleck. Schleck himself is probably gone since he seems to be barely hanging on with Piti, Evans and Kohl.

And Piti does attack! And Schleck is able to hang on to his wheel. Evans and Kohl are struggling.

Edit: They are all together again. But Evans is close to cracking for good.

Evans always looks like he is about to crack. Watching him climb make me hurt.

Menchov is falling further back.

Sastre now has an almost 1 minute lead over the others. VandeVelde is leading the chase. Evans is near the break of the group. Menchov looks like he is gaining on the yellow jersey group.

Yep, they just let Menchov catch up!

If they kept a steady high pace then they could bury Menchov. It would be hilarious if Menchov has a great ITT, Evans has a not so good one, and Evans loses it all.

Sastre is now 16 secs overall ahead of Evans. How is he at the TT?
He was around 1:40 from Schumi in the Cholet TT - so well over a minute over Evans.

Edit: Menchov back in the yellow jersey group! If Schleck attacks, he is an idiot.
