cadel has been something of a welcome ambassador for the world's jersey. did yeoman's work for his team in the autumn classics after winning in mendrisio. spring classic victory. couple of maglia rosa's. now a maillot jaune. not trying to tell australia what to do, but he is a credit. and he has a really cute wife (although not really an australian, she's still fetching.)

Are you talking about the same guy who was fighting with another cyclist on the road during the Giro this year???? jus' sayin'...

Yeah he's a credit to the jersey.

I think the Aussies know his worth : the man deserves to win the Aussie equivalent of Sportstar of the Year in my view.
He's a credit to the sport.

Are you talking about the same guy who was fighting with another cyclist on the road during the Giro this year???? jus' sayin'...

Didn't he slap a camera man for touching his dog? Regardless of the circumstances it was hillarious...

Well what an interesting stage. Bad luck there for Armstrong although i'm not sure he would have had the legs anyway. I'm not sure what team sky were doing on the first cat 1 climb it didn't help there cause at all.

Great Effort by Astana today and especially Navaro who was briliant on the front. From the look of a lot of the riders they were all very tired so maybe they didn't have the legs to attack earlier on the final climb.

Well done to A. Schlek on the win, although I wouldn't read to much into the 10 second win over Contador, i'm sure he'll be fine after the rest day.

Evans did well and hung on again, he's got to be a real chance of a podium now although there is a long way to go, but he should fair better in the pyranese there more suited to him.

Awesome work by the Astana boys to separate the wheat from the chaff. Daniel Navarro is the man. The work he did personally to decimate the peloton was impressive. The amount of time he spent on the front up those climbs was ridiculous!
I kinda felt like Navaro should've gotten "ride of the day" - man, he was a hoss up there.

Right now, Astana looks stronger in the mountains than the much-vaunted Shack; though I think Brajkovic would've been up there with Levi and Klodi if he hadn't had to stay back and hold Lance's hand.

Contador not as strong as expected, Andy Schleck as fast as expected and Sammy Sanchez looking good. Evans looked like he was struggling towards the end as well.
.
Sanchez looked terrific, but the caveat there is if you think Astana is a weak team around Contador, what the hell does that make Euskaltel?

Don't get me wrong, they're the team I "root" for (go figure with a screen name of "Chavez") but they're basically constructed to hunt stage wins, not support a rider in GC. They can probably GET Sanchez in the yellow with all their climbers but I doubt if they could protect the jersey when it came down to it.

i think this tour will cement evans reputation as a worthy heir to the legacy of poulidor.
No disrespect to the brilliance of Poulidor but I think Evans would probably prefer a better precursor than a guy known as "The Eternal Second."

to be plain, i am really liking the manner evans is wearing his jersey.
Definitely. I'd have no problem with a rider of Evans' demeanor winning the Tour. He's a little idiosyncratic but overall a pretty class rider.

I don't know. It seems to fit him pretty well in the tour so far. I don't think he'll ever win it.

I personally do not read much into Contadors lack of speed in this stage. There is still a lot of racing to do and I suspect he will have better days ahead.
It has been good race so far but for me still lacks the old rivalry of races past.
The contenders will need to train hard today to be on in top form for tomorrow.

I don't think we'd find anyone 'training hard' on a rest day. Tour diaries typically mention an easy ride to keep the blood flowing, massage, phone calls to family, lots of caloric intake, sometimes travel (to the next stage start), and of course, rest and recovery.

This is what has been told to me from pros who have ridden this race several time. They don't ride at 100% or all day but don't take a Sunday stroll either.
"Those that take it easy on rest day will suffer the next day in the mountains".
I have no reason to doubt a guy that has ridden for three professional team.

... Now it's properly described rest day.

To know what TdF riders do on rest days, read their tour diaries:

From LA's 2009 TdF tour diary:
Just finished a easy ride on rest day #2. Beautiful here in Sion, Switzerland. Lots of vines.' (12pm)
Getting rest day massage and listening to Willie Nelson's Songbird. Willie and Ryan Adams make a damn good team.' (5pm)

That must have come from Vino's tour diary ... ;)

I think I'll stick with my direct contact information as credible, also this is a mountain stage after the rest day.

Well go ahead and do that. I'm sure this 'direct contact' knows far more about what the TdF riders do than the actual TdF riders themselves.

They were TDF riders and yes I will beleive them more than what I read on the internet.(rolling eyes also).

Contador was 'training hard' today according to VeloNews ... :p
