2012 Giro d'Italia The Giro d'Italia, also simply known as The Giro, is a long distance road bicycle racing stage race for professional cyclists held over three weeks in May/early June in and around Italy. The Giro is one of the three Grand Tours (the others being the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España), and is part of the UCI World Ranking calendar. It is the second most prominent stage race in the world (after the Tour), and along with the Tour and the Road World Cycling Championship it makes up the Triple Crown of Cycling.

Hope the race evokes my attention.

I was also thinking a similar thing! Though its been a fantastic race for the last few years, hopefully this year is also.

Scarponi is going to be hard to beat.

Scarponi was my pre race pick to win pink, but he looked terrible today. Joaquin Rodriguez put 23 seconds into him, and even Frank Schleck had a faster time. Scarponi isn't a great TT rider, but come on.

It's on universal sports. If you don't have that channel, you can purchase Giro coverage (live streams and replays) from universal's website. You can also watch Eurosport's coverage online in English.

Thanks..

Wonder why such a big race is not on NBC sports as a lot of them are..

Contractual arrangements. Even though Universal Sports is part of the NBC network, it is not the same as NBC sports from a programming/carrier standpoint. I think all the cable networks dropped Universal a year or two ago after a contractual dispute between the cable companies and Universal. Universal encouraged viewers/subscribers to contact cable companies and request continued inclusion of US in cable line-ups but obviously didn't work. I contacted Verizon a few times and they basically said "meh". One of the Sat networks still carries.

Watching live streaming via steephill.tv/ stopstream.tv/ EuroSport.com this year.

I actually think that they're trying to get people to request Universal - I think cycling fans are a niche audience, but we're probably fairly demographically desirable (i.e. anyone who will drop near 5 figures on a bike probably has some disposable income).

Besides, Versus never really ran coverage of the Giro anyway.

Thank the gods I don't have to see that "pistoliero" salute for a while. Pure selfishness really, but each time witnessed I throw up in my mouth a little...

GC, I'm going for Kreuziger, Basso, Scarponi.
Not necessarily in that order though!

Taylor Phinney must be the first American rider since Andy Hampsten (?) to wear the Maglia Rosa?

2008 Christian VandeVelde. TTT.

Sprinting is not for the faint of heart - or the drunk. LOL!

These guys on Universal Sports are definitely getting payola for every time they say "Tyler Farrah". Give it a rest already.
