Just bought a steel framed Roberts road bike that takes a 26.8 mm diameter seatpin. Any ideas what tubing it is made from? The seller said it was Columbus but no original transfers to verify this. Frame built in early 80's.

To over simplify the analysis, in the time frame you are referring to, the 26.8mm seatpin tubing size was typically Japanese ... so, perhaps the tubing is Ishiwata.
Reynolds & Columbus were typically 27.2mm.
There were a lot of exceptions.

Hmmm more research needed. Thanks for the reply. There is a frame number on the bb shell but it is presently obscured by paint layers. Will have to decipher this and contact the man himself...Thing is I don't think I've ever seen a Chas Roberts frame made of anything other than Reynolds or Columbus but you could be right..
