Does any one know of a 28 hole road hub that costs less than ultegra? would an mtb hub work on a road wheel?

Why do you want 28 spoke ? If you can live with it the 105 has 32 and will build a lot stronger wheel and the weight gain is negligable because you may need a stronger rim / heavier spoke combination for 28. My mechanic finds little difference between the 105 and ultegra hubs but the Shimano web -site gives info on a new , lighter 105 hubset ( bet it ain´t cheaper though ).
Think about why you want 28 spokes on your budget and if your actually going to benefit from it .
Just bought ( early Xmas prezzy , from me to me ) a 105 , 32 with mavic open pro rim handbuilt DT spokes , seems nice ( 95 euros ) and´s real comfy .
