Hi everyone

Did you know that in 40 hours Australians spend.......?

a.. More than $4.1 million on chocolate confectionery
b.. More than $3.2 million on CDs and records
c.. Almost $9.8 million on hygiene products, haircare and cosmetics
d.. More than $3.7 million just to pay the intereston credit card debts More alarmingly in 40
hours Australians purchase 7 million fast food meals, coming in at a staggering $31.8 million.

By giving up some of these luxuries for 40 hours, you can make a huge difference to the lives of
those less fortunate.

The World Vision 40 Hour Famine is on again from 8pm Friday 16 May to noon Sunday 18 May. World
Vision is urging Australians to take part as a team this year, whether it's with your friends,
school or uni mates or fellow members of your sporting or cultural club.

40 hours without sufficient food or drink seems almost impossible for us but this is a brutal
reality of everyday life for the 11 million people in Ethiopia facing starvation.

This year World Vision's target is $5 million, a target that is achievable when we consider the
above figures.

Since the introduction of the 40 Hour Famine in 1975, more than 400,000 Australians have joined the
fight against famine by helping to raise more than $132 million to assist the people of Ethiopia.

To find out more about how you (and your team) can make a difference visit www.40hourfamine.com or
call World Vision on 13 32 40.

Only the fools, gullible and the dumb give World Vision any support.

A large group/bunch of wankers trying to be social climbers and pretend to be something they want to
aspire to and cannot.

A few cents in the dollar is lucky to reach those that need it.

Really? While I certainly don't see eye to eye with all WV's ideology, the most recent figures I
could quickly pull up (1990) suggest that out of an income of $US226 million that year, $US202.9
million seems to have gone directly in aid. (I've not included what they describe as "ministry"
expenses).

(source: http://www.publiceye.org/research/Group_Watch/Entries-134.htm )

So that's very close to 90 cents in the dollar.

But maybe you have some better figures to support your accusation against WV?

Or which charities would you recommend as being a "safer" bet?

I would have .. but they spammed our newsgroups and out of principle I will NOT support newsgroup
spammers ....

Hippy,

Sounds like a great way to lose those extra kgs... perhaps you could do it 10 times???

You are a ***** Winona. Do you really think that by doing a 40 hour famine, that you are doing the
right thing. If everyone stopped eating sweets or food for 40 hours, then there would be a drop in
short term employment. Think about how stupid some of these so called do gooders are. Do yourself a
favour and give the needy some of your time. Don't give money to the organizations. They will blow
more than 50% of it on administration costs. Stop employing useless assess in there self
gratification. Get off your butt and help in a soup kitchen some where. Help out who you can help.
If you stretch yourself to help everyone, then you will achieve nothing but stress. Short of
swearing at you. Thank god I am a gentleman. Your so called type make me angry.

regards Grumpy Bum..

Mike if the mongrels at WorldVision only blew 50% on administration the assholes would be
doing well.

The mongrels and social climber wanna bee's at WorldVision blow about 95% on administration
and parties.

WorldVision should be charged with fraud.

If I had the time and I was at a 40 hour famine meeting, I would take a chocolate cake big enough to
feed at least 10 people and start eating it in front of them. I have been very poor. If someone gave
me money, I would consider myself fortunite, but spend it foolishly. If someone showed me how to
live and improve my life, even without giving me money. Then they would be forever in my thoughts.
Thank god I was born with a good thought process. We can work out ways to survive. Some people are
really needy. Some people just use the system or any system because they are lazy. Some people are
just very stupid. Some american made a comment in a email on a news group some time back. Went
something like this: If all the danger signs were taken down, then the stupid people would not
suvive. The world would not have a huge burden to bear anymore.

As some-one else pointed out, about 90%, one of the better ones. I think you're getting WV confused
with Care Australia.

I sponsor two children through WV, costs me $70 a month. What do you do Graham? Teach literacy
to people for couple of hours a week? Work a few hours for the SES? A member of the local
Volunteer Fire Brigade? Visit people in aged care centres? Mow the lawn for the old dear next
door? Scout leader?

Hmmm, thought so.

Theo

I certainly disagree, I have visited my World Vision sponser children in Thailand, and the local
operators had all the books open for my inspection, to check how much goes to the children. I was
impressed, given the scale of what they do, I think it is a worthwhile project, although sometimes a
bit Christian orientated (esp in a Buddhist country)

World Vision's mission statement -- "There is only one thing better than one million starving
Africans and that is two million starving Africans - we are the specialists in breeding
starving Africans"

And there are people who work for World Vision who make millions of dollars each year doing it.

Feed 1 starving African so he can have 7 children. Feed the 7 children so they can each have 7
children. Feed each of those 7 children so they can each have 7 children. Instead of 1 starving
African you have now got 343 starving Africans. And the parasites at World Vision have made a
fortune doing it. Starving Africans are the grist for the World Vision mill.

So go ahead ! Destroy the earth ! Over-populate Now !
