We're doing a ride from Austin to Alaska next summer for cancer awareness. The team from last year is consulting, but we make all our own calls. What do you guys suggest for equipment? We have to keep costs to a minimum, but pain and suffering still bearable.

TREK 5200 with triple, CXP-33 3X 32 Sapim Race (14/15 DB) spoked Ultegra hub wheels, Avocet Carbon 12 tires as wide as will fit, and a saddle & pedals that really work for you.
Get at least 1,000 miles on the bicycle before you leave to make sure everything is working right and that you have all the fit issues worked out. -

I was thinking the 5200 (i.e. Madone 5.2 now) - but the cost on it is high. Last year they rode 1500's I believe. I was planning on getting a 5.2 anyways - they're such sweet rides.
Any suggestions on seats? I'm riding the stock Allez seat right now and it's PAINFUL!

Wider tires like 25 or 28 mm give much improved ride, fewer flats, and longer wear without much change in rolling resistance.... and sometimes less rolling resistance. They also tend to protect the rims better.
I the saddle area you need one that aligns with your anatomy the best. Proper support of your sit bones is crucial. I would look into the Terry line of saddles. My current favorite is the Ti-Fly.
