I had did a half ironman last September and now I will not be able to
do a duathlon I had been training for this. Is it possible get my swim
in about 4-5 weeks so I can survive the 1.2 miles? Should I swim as
many days as possible to get there. I am not concerned about the time.
I just want to get in a long steady swim so I haven't spent myself for
the bike/run. My bike is stronger than last year and have already been
    done 10+ mile long runs.

    Thanks

Hmmmm. That really means you've got about 4 weeks to build to being
comfortable swimming 1500 meters or so, then taper back down. Swimming
more than three times a week will probably do more harm than good. If you
can do a workout in week one that has one 800 meter non-stop swim in it
by the end of the week, then 1000 the next, 1200 the next, and 1500 on
the fourth week, then start a slow taper, you might be able to do an easy
1.2 miles on race day. If you haven't been swimming at all since last
september and can't make it 1000 meters in the second week without
completely wping yourself out, I wouldn't think it practical or wise to
throw yourself into a large group in open water on race day.
