7-9spd compatibility / conversion

hi
i have a i have a bridgestone 450 i was thinking of changing over to a 9 speed from a 7 speed has any one done this and could you please tell me how to tell if this will work. thank you for the help

Yeah it works,and with a steel frame if the dropouts are 126,you can just spread by hand drop in the wider 130 hub and ride it.That is after you have spent all the money it takes to upgrade the drivetrain.Always remember, anything is possible if you have enough money. sometimes it just doesn't make sense.

You may just want to consider restoring it to it's original yumminess ...

Just out of interest, when were frames with a 130mm spread introduced? And when did they become commonplace on road frames?

1988 or 89, when shimano introduced 8 speed.
