Just respoked my old (circa 1990) Deore XT rear hub. When I
reassemble the cassette, there is a lot of play in the stack after
fully tightening the lock ring, about a half mm or so. I cleaned A
LOT of commuter-crud off the freehub and cassette parts, and I'm not
using a plastic spoke guard, but I can't believe either of those
things explains the looseness. All the wear marks I can see seem to
match up to the next part I'm using, and I didn't think I dropped
anything when disassembing it, but my workbench and garage are messy
enough to swallow the whole cassette!
Below is a link to a photo of all the parts I have, in order of
assembly from top to bottom. Is something missing??
