8-spd STI body interchangeability?

I was hoping someone could tell me if it was possible to install an 8spd STI 'brifter' lever assembly onto a casing/body of a different model. For example, could I graft an RX100 brifter lever onto a 600 body? Or would this work only for certain combinations? The casings seem to be very similar
