  1. A couple years ago I upgraded my LX 8 speed to XT 9 speed by replacing everyting except the crank
and front derailleur. Everything worked perfectly. Now, I just installed a new XT 9 sp crank (kept
old 8 sp front derailleur) and I can't get the front shifting to work. The front derailleur seems to
swing too much between clicks. By using the lower limit adjustment I can get the small and middle
chainrings to work, but the shift to the big ring results in the cage being too far out. If I adjust
the outer limit screw to prevent this then the shifter doesn't click into the outer position. Is the
chainring spacing different from 8 speed to 9 speed?
