a nice mod for single pivot sidepull calipers....

Do it. I'm running old single pivot brakes on both my bikes and they
are perfectly compatible with modern levers. I get two finger braking
and can easily raise my rear wheel. On top of that I can run my pads a
good enough distance from my rims that I can remove my 28mm tires
without opening the QR's. This also makes wobbly wheels rideable.
Addtionally, these brakes are simple in design and can be easily and
completey serviced. Dual pivot brakes have bolts retained with thread
locking compound. Not necessary on classic sidepull brakes such as the
Shimano, Suntour, and Campagnolo brakes.

My user sets are Dura Ace 7402's and Suntour Superbe (Campagnolo
knock-off). My reserve sets are Campagnolo Record and Super Record.

I cut new threads onto the front and mount it on the rear, and the rear
in front. There was a big discussion about the dangers of this a while
ago. I'll let you know if anything catastrophic happens.

No problems with leverage here. As to the nutted pivot bolt -- you can
either chop it off, cut some new threads and use a "modern" allen fitting,
or use a washer. You used to be able to get nice shouldered brass washers
for exactly this purpose; Rivendell offers a nylon piece for the same
purpose:

The last generation Suntour Superbe Pro brakes were designed this way. I think
Dia-compe also sold a set of similar braks.
