A young woman showed up at work yesterday with a real
plaster cast on her right hand from elbow including wrist,
thumb. Broken arm. I haven't seen a plaster cast on anybody
for a very, very long time. Could it be because she was a
very small person? I have seen these plastic frames or molds
for years?

frames or molds for years?There's nothing inherently wrong with them. Many casts
nowadays are made of other materials for convenience, but
there's nothing wrong with good ol' plaster, provided the
doctor applying it can stand the mess it makes.
