I recently investigated the options and ended up buying an Ortlieb. Their full range is at:

    http://www.ortlieb.com/2005web/_browse.php?lang=en&tfile=radtaschen&produkt=bike%20panniers

I ended up getting an "Office-Bag" as it suits my needs (carrying files, paperwork) and looks good in the office environment. The Ortlieb QL2 suspension system is awesome - easy to attach and remove yet extremely secure.

I gather the Back-Roller Plus or the Back-Roller Classic are the most popular choice of Ortlieb rear pannier.

Here is a link to a homemade pannier. Very unorthodox, but after reading this journal, they seemed to exceed the demands of this X-country tour.

Scroll to the pictures and descriptions at the bottom of the webpage.

    I'm enamored with the ingenuity.
