Four months ago I replaced my traditional cantis with TRP CX9s. The TRPs are awesome. However, as I suspected, my old Shimano Sora brake levers (because of the pull ratio) do not pull quite enough and bottom out. I'd like to avoid using a Travel Agent, if at all possible.

So I am looking to replace the old Soras with a set of Shimanos with a greater pull ratio. I have been told I'll need Shimano 5700 (105) or above. Yet 105 does not offer a 2x9 setup, so I believe I'd have to go all the way up to Ultegra--an expense I consider unnecessary (for me).

Would the modern Sora ST-3500 STIs really not work?

FYI. Mini-V-Brake calipers are supposed to be compatible with standard Road brake levers ...
  • Your Sora levers should have the same "pull" as most 105/Ultegra/DA levers (except for the most recent, that is) ... So, there is probably something "wrong" with the way you have your calipers set up.
Regardless, you CAN use Shimano STI brake levers which are designed for a Triple crankset with a Double.
