I've been looking at aero wheels lately and would like opinions on their usefulness.
I am training for some masters races later this year and would like to improve my bike by upgrading my wheels. Currently, I am training at about 100km per week and intend to improve to 200km. per week by July.
I run a steel frame bike with a 9-spd. Veloce group (daytona front) on CXP 33 32h. wheels, which I consider fine for training.
However, looking at drag data, it seems that one has to go to the extent of HED 3 spokes or at least Jet 60's to get sufficient drag improvements. I don't have a team - so clinchers are us.
The above are far more money that I would like to spend on moi. What about Velocity Deep-V's? Are they aerodynamic enough?
Where are the $/drag thresholds? Any ideas? Also, need opinions on weight vs. drag.
BTW - these races are just road pursuits/races [about 70 km] and TT's [25km to 45km], with flat to rolling profiles, so any wheels should be some good compromise of low drag and crosswind-friendly. Where I train is all rolling with some decent hills in the 150 m. range.
