Mitochondria are bacteria that were hijacked by mammal cells
about a billion yeas ago (interestingly in the first 4b
years of the earth's total 5b there was no life ) and
produce energy in the cells . New Scientist article May 29
shows that mice which had mitochondria which mutate twioce
as fast as normal aged twice as fast . So we need a virus
which can fix these mitochondrial gene defects if we want to
live for ever.
