Ammonia sweat

Hi there,
When I'm out for a cycle, when I come home I notice my sweat
reeks of ammonia, for a while even after the cycle, until I cool
down fully.

This doesn't happen when I go hiking or climbing even though
I'd be sweating as much doing that.

I first thought it's due to poor hygiene but I've tried it in various
states since my last wash: same story.

Anyone any ideas why and how to reduce it/stop it?

Ta,
Colm

Stop cycling :)

But seriously, could it be your cycle clothing that smells rather than you?

Isn't ammonic (?word?) sweat a sign of over-training? Perhaps you should
take it easy?

Typing 'ammonia sweat' into Google brings up several thousand references
to fitness and training sites that may help answer your question.

Peter

Its a sign of inadequate hydration. It was noted back before the days of sports drinks some atheletes could go for long periods without urinating. Somehow the body finds a way to excrete waste through sweating, aleviating the need to urinate. Yes, the same waste products are excreted via sweat rather than urine.

Hydrate before your next ride to the point you must evacuate prior to riding. You probably will need to go on the ride too so plan carefully.

If this doesn't help, you might consider getting professional medical consultation.

As it happens we had a thread on exactly that topic a week or so ago.
