Car supremacist thinking can be traced back to the dawn of motoring,
and was memorably satirised by Kenneth Grahame in 1908.

So the real question is: at what point in car travel's transition from
being the preserve of the elite to being the second most common mode
by number of journeys (it will probably never catch walking), did it
become "right" for car drivers to arrogate ownership of the road?
