And so it continues.... people are surprised the Canadian Cycling Association does next to nothing for the sport. This should no longer be a surprise. This is par for the course.

Former CCA President Bill Kinash is killing the sport. His three-year tenure was the worst period of the sport in Canadian history. He hired two people with no cycling experience to run the CCA. When Kinash was thrown out of office after his first term, something unheard of in the CCA's history, new President Pierre Blanchard and Board member Lesley Tomlinson of Vancouver, along with Kinash, continued the stupidity of hiring another Chief Executive for the sport, Lorriane Lafreniere, with no cycling experience whatsoever. Ms. Lafrenière does not even come for a sport, she comes from a coaching association. She has never organized a sports event in her life. She probably has never been to a bike race. How stupid is that to put her in charge of the sport. Are Kinash and now Tomlinson and Blanchard brain-dead????

So we find ourselves in this seemingly permanent disastrous situation for the sport.

Once again Tim Horton’s is too cheap to fund athletes wearing their national team jersey. This is old news. The Toronto Star looked into already. This is a direct result of hiring Kim Sebrango in marketing for the CCA. She knows nothing about the sport and re-signs a very poor agreement with Tim Horton’s because it was all she could get. She has done nothing in more than 18 months. Not one real new sponsorship of any consequence.

Below you will find the latest problem. This is from a thread at the web forum of Canadian Cyclist where I am banned for posting by owner/editor Rob Jones. Over 1700 people have read this complaint.

Mr. Jones likes to support the CCA and its policies no matter how flawed because he receives a great deal of income form the CCA. Go visit the new CCA web site and you'll know what I mean.

Nothing will improve in the sport until Canadian cyclists decide to take back their sport from career bureaucrats bouncing around Sport Canada from one association to another with no passion for cycling, no experience in it and no understanding of the complex sport.

Earlier today in the news site here, it was stated that "As the Canadian Cycling Association doesn't provide any funding for the National Cyclo-Cross Team, riders must cover their own airfare, accomodations, meals, equipment expenses and even their national team jerseys." What does that organization do with all the membership money that they derive? We cannot even pony up a few grand to have some of our best riders represent our country? It is a shame that a country like Australia can get together such a great program and even get some of our best people to go there and coach but we can't even get a team together and paid for to represent our country at a world championship. Don't give me the excuse that all our money is being spent on hockey and other "Canadian" sports. Cycling is not "the" Australian sport either but they do a great job of funding it. Small wonder that a lot of Canadian riders are heading out of the country to ride for other teams.

All we ever get from the CCA is lip service about how they are progressing cycling and education in this country. If that is so then where are the results? I have visited their website (as well as the OCA) and find them to be lagging in terms of results, rider info and upcoming races. Some things on these websites never change. There are still links on the CCA to buy 2003 World Championship gear. I thought they ran out of that at the race as they claimed. Great foresight! What do they do with all of their memberships fees? Will we hear the excuse that running a website is an expensive proposition? Guess what, find another host and start fresh! We deserve better than this from our provincial and national bodies. Does everyone just like to lay like a sheep and take it just so they can go online and complain?? Ket's try to get these people motivated to advance our sport and get better financial backing for our athletes.

Now that Canadian Cycling Association Chief Operating Officer or Secretary General or whatever title they have given Lorraine Lafrenière has an official email address, let’s ask her about her sports background.

Ms. Lafrenière, now that you are running the sport of cycling for Canada, tell us, have you ever attended a bike race? If so, when and where?

Have you ever been to a velodrome?

Have you ever competed in any sport yourself and if so at what level?

Have you ever organized a sports event of any kind whatsoever? If so what, where and when?

It would add to your credibility if you could respond to some of this, since you have no credibility in the eyes of most people in the sport, in fact you are an insult to the professionals and people who have spent their life in the sport. When former Chief Operating Officer, Steve Lacelle, left the CCA he said the sport needed somebody like a Ken Read, a seasoned professional in his sport. Instead, cycling got you, someone who knows nothing about the sport and has never been involved in it.

How can we explain this stupidity?
