    Wow.. very scary.

I found out a little over a month ago that a girl I worked with at a dental
office had the WLS. She suffered a stroke. She is pretty bad off. Her mom
has had to quit her business to take care of her. It has been 5yrs since
working at that office, but she was not 80-100lbs overweight at that time.
She must have gotten huge in a short time frame. She has an 8yr old son and
now needs help caring for him.
    Very sad.

It is scary. It's a very high risk procedure, and there should be an
ethics review, IMO, before each surgery to keep things honest and
    appropriate.

OTOH, for those who have been unable to lose weight despite great
efforts and whose obesity is life threatening NOW, I think it should be
    available as a last resort.

Hello? One person undergoes GBS. Another one does diet/exercise.
The diet/exercise person does not have any risk of the complications
that the GBS person does. Get it?

    Marsha/Ohio

You're missing the point. We were discussing mortality risk, not
    surgical complication risk.

    Susan

Do all people from NY have a reading comprehension
problem? My post was attached to tunderbar's,
which extensively listed both mortality AND morbidity.

    ROFL!!

Yeah, I mean, who ever died while exercising or dieting??

    Sheesh.

    Susan

Sorry if it went over your head. Guess it was too
much to expect out of New Yorker.

Geez... there's not enough vitriol in this thread, you have to start
bashing people along geographical lines too?

    To what purpose?

Guess you didn't read much of the Eating in Diners
thread. Susan takes it personally and likes to
rant when people give an opinion about NY, so I'm
picking that scab. She also has a reading
comprehension problem and posts before she thinks.
Hope I haven't offended you, too. Feel free to
put me in your kill file.

    Tori

No, I don't crave truffles specifically, but chocolate on rare
    occasions. ;-)

IMHO, Lindt is the BEST chocolate candy, with Dove coming in a close
    second.

Fortunately, dark chocolate satisfies a craving with far, far less than
milk chocolate, and google has plenty of recipes for low carb chocolate
    treats.

It's really not much of a problem. I don't get chocolate cravings with
any great frequency. Maybe once every couple of months or so.

If I crave something chocolaty I get a chocolate caramel turtle latte..
sugar free syrups and cream instead of milk.. still has carbs but kills the
beast 😉 I also LOVE the caramel coolers at the coffee shop we go to on
    Wed.

    Mmmm, sounds good.
But, usually 1 or 2 dove dark chocolate miniatures takes care of it. :-)
Keep them in the freezer. My housemate usually wipes them out in a week
so temptation is not an issue. <lol>

Yeah thats the issue for me.. if it is something I know I will overdo at
home I dont buy it for home. I go out and have to make the effort to have
it.. That includes begging Jeff to take me there.. lol
