Hi there, I'm hoping someone here might help me out. I have to admit to not being a terribly keen cycler myself, but I just found out a bit of interesting family history that I'm trying to clarify and thought someone here might help.

Apparently my great-uncle (Paul Rother) cycled for Germany in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The story goes that he was in a road race and in the lead, near the finish line, when the chain on his bike broke. He had to carry it across the line and ended up in about 10th place. I know a Frenchman Charpentier won the race I think my uncle took part in, but can find no record of it or stories from the time. Does this ring any bells with anyone? Ideas of where I might find records? I'm already trying to go through the IOC...
