I am looking for a bike for my daughter (5 ft 1"). She likes the look of the Apollo XC.26S but I have read that it weighs 18kg, which seems an awful lot for a small bike. I used to have a 42lb Raleigh Wayfarer which was a heavy lump of a bike.

I am also considering the Dawes XC 1.0 mountain bike, the Ridgeback Motion Hybrid and possibly the Claud Butler Classic, though I would prefer not to pay much over £200.

Halfords told her she needs a 17" frame but few adult bikes are that small. Few of the websites mention weight but apparently (Evans site) the Dawes (18" minimum) weighs 12.8 kg - a lot better than 18!

Any comments?

Mountain and road bikes sizes are measure differently ...
Best to try out for size by sitting on it first cos we are all different(Ive long body & short legs so standard size for my leg size aint that perfect.!).Doubt Apollo are in the same class as the others but for a general purpose prob ok and a lower price.unless doing some serious off road stuff or touring..Beware cheap bikes that have suspension
