Just wondering... What are the applaud and smite buttons that I see next to posts?

If someone gives good advice or says something you really like, applaud, or vise versa.<br />

I may still be "way slow" but is there a button to hit to applaud/ smite?? - I can't seem to locate them if there are??!?!??! ??? ???
