Are MA3 rims any good ?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with using levers to get tyres on.
The only mistake is to use them wrongly and pinch the tube.

For various values of easy, obviously, strongly dependent on the rim
and tyre. 26" is usually OK, but try getting a 406 Stelvio off with
your fingers :)

And some 26" tyres aren't that easy. I've managed to bend some Park Tools
plastic levers on a 26" tyre. :-/

Yes, I know that. S'why I use them with care :)

On? I only use 'em to get tyres OFF. Putting tyres on gets done with
bare hands...

That's all very well until you get a combination that is so frustrating
that you use the lever wrongly in desperation because there seems to be no
other way.

That's what we were talking about, I thought. You've been lucky. Some
tyres are soooo tight (on some rims) that a lever has to be used to get
the damn thing ON. I've recently found that's the case with Panaracer
Pasela on MA3 and A719. Perhaps I could have managed without if I
struggled enough but I couldn't be bothered, so used a lever, carefully.

With Open Pros on the other hand, I don't need any levers to get Open
Corsa or Stelvio Light 700x23 tyres OFF, let alone on.

Interesting. I couldn't get Hutchinson Flash 700x20s onto my Mavic
Ksyriums at all - with levers or without. I got Panaracer Technova
700x20s on without any difficulty (or any levers). The Hutchinsons fit
on the old Weinmann 700C rims on my Record without difficulty, either.

700C seems a surprisingly variable standard!

X-no-archive: No, I'm not *that* naive.

And thats my experience too. My MA2s with Hutchinson or Michelin 23mm
tyres are complete *****es, on and off. Mavic Reflex with Vittoria and
Hutchinsons 23mm tyres easy with no tools, off and on.

Magazine reviews suggest Campag's factory-built wheels are absolute
swines in this regard, being fractionally over-diameter compared to
your average 700c.

I specifically use vVttorias on Pete's recommendation for ease of
"taking-off-and-putting-back-on". However I am in a bit of a quandary what
to use for winter - especially as I like to have blue on my tyres to match
the fork colour!
