Are Shimano SH-55 multirelease cleats compatible with 858 pedals?

    Are Shimano SH-55 multirelease cleats compatible with 858 pedals? It = hardly seems possible that
    Shimano could have made pedals compatible = with only one kind of cleat, though their site seems to
    indicate that = they did. Could they really be that crazy?

    No they aren't, and yes Shimano are "that crazy". Common opinion is that the 858 was a mistake
    anyway, but the much better 959 also only takes one cleat, because it only needs to take one; good
    security and easy kick out with SH51. Conversely, with the cheaper pedals eg 515 you have to choose
    between good security SH51 or easy kick out SH55.
