I couldnt agree more there - lots of 4x4s that never do anything more strenuous than mounting the
    curb etc

Those 4x4s will no doubt soon be absolutely essential for the school run. They're apparently about
to put speed bumps all down Lonsdale Road. Hurrah. Fear the power of wide wheelbases...

At least there's a cycle lane...

Oh god. The cycle lane is the narrowest most poorly surface heap of [censored] ever! I sodding hope they
are the sort of bumps you can cycle through or round. Remember that means all the twatfaces will
swerve into the cycle lane so that they can straddle the speedbump more effectively.

An easier solution would be to replace the radar speed warning thing with a camera.

We have a similar problem with the boat - 5 knots downhill with a following wind. The PWC (jet
skiers) go ever so slightly faster:-(

I have been offered a harpoon gun. Do you wish to borrow it when we have eradicated the pests?

Ah, don't they get on yer [censored]. Windsurfers, no problem, but the Jetskis with their incessant
droning - it's a bit like wanking, I think - it only gives pleasure to the person who's doing it. I
like watching sailing boats, fishing boats, any kind of boats - except jetskis. Why PWC by the way?
I rpesume I'm missing something obvious....

Jet skis, nasty noisy smelly things that require little skill and physical ability to go fast on and
annoy and endanger other water and waterside users, best confined to going round in circles on ex
gravel pits. What sort of person uses them? <in the tones of Lloyd Grossman>.

Ah, that's better, another of my predjudices aired in public. Good luck with the harpoon Sandy.

Meanwhile back at the ranch: I took the Shiney Road Bike out today after laying it up for the
winter, forgot how smooth and effortless it felt after boingy mtb and heavy winter hack and the
forecast looks good for the weekend so maybe I'll be out on it again before winter proper returns.

Pete (who when not enjoying the serenity of cycling enjoys the serenity of windsurfing).

Heh. My parents lived several years near the marina in Brighton. When I visited them there, just

Have any of you cyclists ever got into an argument with a cager and then thought "What really is
    the point???"

Yep, which is why I don't bother anymore. Firstly people tend not to be a receptive mood so often
an abusive argument ensues, with little result. And far from being a stress reliever I usually find
that I feel more stressed after it than before.

And of course one day you might meet the nutter with a knife.....

Or in London, a gun.... :-(

I either ignore them or just smile or wave (which can really wind some people up) and then
    forget them.

I take the same approach when in the cage.

There is no point in arguing. Do you expect the cager to stop half way through and say

"Why dear chap/chappess, you have convinced me of my the error of my ways. Please take the keys to
my cage immediately and do as you see fit."

Its not going to happen is it. If someone in a cage starts to argue they have already lost it
mentally and are unstable. Anything could happen. They might even come back after you.

Just let it go and live to ride another day.

Erm due to the presence of gravity, you cannot have a river that suddenly slopes down for a short
section (what I would call downhill) without some kind of major depth change ie rapids or something.

And I think youll find that the surface of a river is horizontal to any accuracy that you can
measure. Or at least the kind of river you could float a reasonnably sized boat on.

Depends how accurate your ruler is. Have a look at an OS map and you'll see that even majot rivers
    cross contours fairly frequently.

They're the best fun to be had on a good river. You haven't lived if you haven't shot the rapids -
    or indeed the waterfalls:-)

What's a reasonably sized boat? We took 6-man rafts over a 9 metre (30 foot) waterfall in Oz, and
that was an open-to-everyone (no experience required) event. Not as exciting as a riverboard, but
    not bad ...
