Six-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong looks set to retire after going for a seventh title in July.

Wow, it's headlines like that one (the BBC's, not yours, since you only borrowed theirs) that gives the media a bad name. Armstrong says nothing more than that he's got something important to say at a press conference next month and they report that he's retiring? He could say a bunch of things that he considers important.
1) he could, indeed, say he's retiring (but the BBC doesn't know that today.)
2) he could say he that his cancer has returned. (although he'd dive right into chemo, I suspect, rather than do the tour.)
3) he could say that he's marrying Cheryl Crow.
4) he could say he's going to do the Giro too, wearing designer Italian handcuffs.
Who knows?
