atkins shakes/bars

  1. I have noticed that atkins shakes and bars seem to keep my
    stool hard. Any ideas what ingredient causes this?

    Here are the ingredients for reference:

    Bar:

    Protein blend (soy protein isolate, hydrolyzed collagen,
    whey protein isolate, calcium/sodium caseinate), glycerine,
    polydextrose (fiber), cocoa butter, cocoa powder, water,
    natural coconut oil (non-hydrogenated), soy nuggets (soy
    protein, rice flour, malt, salt), cellulose, olive oil,
    natural and artificial flavor, lecithin, decaffeinated
    coffee, maltodextrin, guar gum, citric acid (flavor
    enhancer), sucralose (Splenda brand non-nutritive
    sweetener). Nutrition Blend: Calcium (tricalcium phosphate
    and calcium carbonate), magnesium (magnesium oxide), vitamin
    A, vitamin C, vitamin D-3, vitamin B-1 (thiamin), vitamin
    B-2 (riboflavin), vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine), vitamin B-12
    (cyanocobalamin), natural vitamin E (acetate), niacin,
    biotin, pantothenic acid, zinc, folic acid, chromium
    (chromium chelate), vitamin K, selenium.

    Shake:

    Water, calcium caseinate, soybean oil, cocoa(processed with
    alkali), whey protein concentrate, cellulose gel, contains
    0.5% or less of the following: natural and artificial
    flavor, cellulose gum, soy lecithin, carrageenan, sucralose
    (Splenda brand non-nutritive sweetener), magnesium chloride,
    magnesium phosphate, potassium phosphate, tricalcium
    phosphate, d-biotin, d- calcium pantothenate, folic acid,
    niacinamide, pyridoxine hydrochloride, sodium ascorbate,
    thiamin mononitrate, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin B12,
    riboflavin, vitamin D3, vitamin E acetate, vitamin K1,
    chromium chloride, copper sulfate, ferrous sulfate,
    manganese sulfate, potassium chloride, potassium citrate,
    potassium iodide, sodium citrate, sodium molybdate, sodium
    selenite, zinc sulfate, maltodextrin

    Don't blame the ingredients -- its the lack of fiber.

    Even though fiber is listed in the ingredients, you simply
    won't get enough of it on Atkins without supplementation.
    Look for psyllium husk.
