I am toying with the idea of doing some Audaxes this year. i've already
established through previous posts that my Galaxy is an adequate tool for
the job. I just have to get around to selecting a ride or two.
I'm aware that the physical demands are not in direct proportion to the
distance travelled and am wondering how much more demanding a 150km or even
a 200 km audax would be compared with a 100km ride. I have no problems
completing 100km but have yet to attempt 150km.
The rides that I've flagged as possibilities are:
Humber Bridge 100
Yorkshire Wolds 150 (from Boothferry)
Easingwold 100
Wetherby 100 (Starting Fairburn)
Sleepy North Notts Villages (Alfreton 150)
Darlington 200...this goes to Hartside I think and I've a good idea of where
the route will take me - I'm tired already :-)
Does anyone have knowledge of any of the rides? Are there any tips for
preparing for audaxing?
I've started this year's riding with steely determination. I've done 60
miles split between the two windiest Saturdays of the year so far. Been to
the Tan Hill Inn from Reeth and rode home to Leeds from Mill Bank above
Sowerby Bridge. Both rides were exhilerating in very different ways.
