  1. I've just been reading Gerd Schraner's 'The Art of Wheelbuilding'.

I don't know if I want to build my own wheels but I'd be interested in hearing about people's experiences.

Do you know of good wheelbuilders in Australia? I live in Sydney. I'd prefer to find a local builder but I'm also interested in recommendations from other states.

  2. I live in Perth, we have good wheel builders here. I bought a set of Velocity from the local dealer, they were made in Qld. Nice wheels. 😎 I would recomend them.

  3. I've attempted 3 wheels from scratch, but only had success with one front wheel -- the 2 rear wheels I gave up on and took them the shop. I don't have the patience to work on humps and flat spots.

I reckon all this "you need a master to build your wheels" stuff to get a good wheel is too much; it ain't rocket science. What I now do is lace them up (easier than you think) to save a bit of money but leave the spokes loose, turning the nipples down to the end of the thread, then drop it off to the local shop to finish off.
