  1. Southwestern Casserole

    1 lb ground beef
    1/2 cup diced onion
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/8 tsp garlic powder
    1/8 tsp thyme
    1/8 tsp oregano
    1 1-lb can tomatoes
1 10 1/2-oz can cream of mushroom soup
    1 cup Minute Rice
    8 stuffed olives, sliced
3 or 4 slices cheese, cut into strips

Brown meat in a little shortening, add onions, and cook until tender.
Stir in remaining ingredients, except for olives and cheese. Cook
about 5 minutes. Pour mixture into casserole, sprinkle with sliced
olives and place cheese strips over top. Bake just long enough to
melt the cheese in a 350 degree oven.

I was disappointed that the "Hotdish" recipe didn't contain any canned
    cream of soup.

How is this authentic in any way? I live in the southwest and this is
nothing like that would be fixed.
